Urban Studio: A Pole Lot of Fun

A few body rolls and trips up and down the pole later and I was enjoying the routine. We practiced each move several times and though I was laughing at myself with each step, I felt sexy. We added “booty dips,” floor crawling and a twirl before our instructor told us it was time to learn spins. No, I hadn’t misheard her. Sure enough, she put one hand on the pole, took two steps and jumped onto it, wrapping her legs around it as she spun perfectly to the ground. Was this chick from Cirque du Soleil?
We ended the night by performing the routine for each other. I took the stage to “Cherry Pie,” by Warrant and though I experienced a few jitters, the audience loved me. I probably won’t be searching for “Help Wanted” signs in the windows of gentlemen’s clubs of Nashville, but I loved the class. It was fun, physically challenging — my arms were sore for three days — and gave me a boost of confidence to walk a little taller in my patent leather pumps. Read more...
